His status with the Club is presently described, in official correspondence, as indeterminate. His seat remains set at the Boar Moon Supper.
The Record
In his active years, he oversaw the Restorative Retreat with complete authority, managed consequences that other members preferred not to name, and kept at least three men alive through interventions that are not recorded in any medical literature because they should not, strictly speaking, have worked. He carried a bag to every gathering. It was never searched. The Council voted in perpetuity to extend consent to whatever it contained. They have not rescinded that vote, though its relevance is currently moot.
The nature of his departure is a matter of ongoing private discussion among the remaining Council. What can be said: his research interests, always unconventional, crossed at some point from medicine into territory that The Secretary's catalogue lists under the heading "The Doctor's Inquiry" — a heading that currently spans four volumes and which The President has requested not be summarized at full Council until further notice.
He is understood to be pursuing, with the singular focus that once made him invaluable, a line of study concerning the boundary between prolonged life and the deliberate courting of its opposite. Whether these are two separate inquiries or one has not been established. His current whereabouts are known to The Fixer. They have not been shared with the full Council.
